According to the common people of Islam Hajj Akbar is that Hajj in which wuquf e Arafah (stay in Arafah) happens on Friday, but it is the wrong idea, in Shariah, every Hajj is Hajj Akbar in comparison of Umrah, and Umrah is the Hajj Asghar.
العرف الشذي شرح سنن الترمذي (2/ 295):
"الحج الأكبر في عرف الحديث هو الحج، وأما الحج الأصغر فالعمرة، لا ما هو متعارف في عامة الناس من أن الحج الأكبر الذي يكون يوم عرفة فيه يوم الجمعة".
