Islam never used forces to convert to Islam:

Is it true that in the early Muslim conquests, Muslims forced natives to convert to Islam after conquering their land?

It's absolutely wrong, Muslims never forced anyone to convert to Islam after conquering the land. Islamic conquests begin from Makkah till Constantinople, but forcefully conversion never been existed. Spain where Muslims ruled more than seven hundred years now almost empty from the Muslim population if they were used force there would be at least more than half of the population Muslim.
The Muslim conquest of Sicily began in June 827 and lasted until 902, when the last major Byzantine stronghold on the island, Taormina, fell. Isolated fortresses remained in Byzantine hands until 965, but the island was henceforth under Muslim rule until conquered in turn by the Normans in the 11th century, but they never used force to convert natives into Islam.
Islam entered southern Europe through North Africa in the 8th–10th centuries; Musl  political entities existed firmly in the hat is today SpainPortugal, Sicily, Malta. Islam expanded into the Caucasus through the Muslim conquest of Persia in the 7th century. The Ottoman EmpiKosovxpanded into southeastern Europe, invading and conquering huge portions of the Serbian EmpireBulgarian Empire, kosov, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania and all the remaining Byzantine Empire in the 14th and 15th centuries. But never used force to convert natives into Islam.
